Special Assistance schools threatened with
closure

Schools of the Eagle Arts and Vocational College in Broken Hill,
Bligh Park and Kincumber face closure following a damning report by the
NSW Education Standards Authority. The Eagle Arts schools are Special
Assistance schools which cater for students who don’t fit in or are
rejected by the mainstream school system. An unconventional approach is
taken to teaching and principal Gab McIntosh reports surprising results
in algebra. But a recent inspection report found the schools
noncompliant in a range of areas including staff, curriculum, buildings,
child protection and financial reporting. If the report’s
recommendations are adopted, the three schools will need to close.
